My name is Kymberli Wregglesworth and I am a social studies teacher at Onaway Secondary School. I was a 2019 Finalist for Michigan Teacher of the Year and currently serve on the Board of Directors for the National Network of State Teachers of the Year (NNSTOY). I was President of the Michigan Council for the Social Studies during the 2022-2023 school year, and have also been a Policy Fellow and Mentor for the Michigan Teacher Leadership Collaborative. I am passionate about social studies education, especially civic education, and was named a Finalist for the Bill of Rights Institute National Civics Teacher of the Year in 2023.
In 2022, I was an inaugural recipient of the Auschwitz Legacy Fellowship, which allowed me to make an in-depth study of the Holocaust culminating in a 10-day trip to Warsaw and Krakow, Poland, as well as three days at the Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial and Museum. I was also a 2019 Gerstacker Fellow, working with colleagues to better understand how to be a servant leader in education. Our group traveled to Finland and Germany to experience those nation's educational systems and look for ways to implement their examples into our system here in the United States. Finally, during my undergraduate experience, I was awarded the Global Service Fellowship and traveled to souther India to teach in an English-medium school in a small, rural village.
I earned my Master of Education from Michigan State University and a second Master in American History & Government from Ashland University. While studying at Ashland, I was awarded the prestigious James Madison Fellowship and spent four weeks studying the Constitution and Founding Era at Georgetown University. I am also a proud Alma Scot, having received my Bachelor’s Degree in History and Political Science from Alma College.
